Journeys in PCV- Part 10

Name: Kosala Maariya Yesuthasan
Age: 12 years old
Parents are in home with 2 younger brothers. 1 elder brother is in boys’ PCV.

Her house was destroyed by the house. The family had nowhere to stay other than the refugee camp in a tent. She was in the camp for 7 months. The government officials had brought them on a bus back to their hometown and left them stranded with no houses to live in. Through the courts, they were allowed to set up camps and stay there. Then after 3 months, the government gave them bricks and tools to build their own house. She built her house with her family.

She was brought here as they couldn’t afford for education or even living expenses. She is happy here. She doesn’t want to go back home as it is difficult to live there.


Name: Kemalogini Sivamogan
Age: 14 years old

Dad is in home with 2 elder brothers of which one is handicapped and 1 younger brother is studying. The other brother has no skin on his leg due to bomb blasts during the war. Mother left her and her family in 2003 after disagreements in marriage life. 1 elder sister in hostel.

Her rooftop was demolished in the attacks, her family and her had to move from camps to camp. He dad was in a job which didn’t support a lot. He brother was ill for a long time and he had to be brought often to the hospital.

The government brought them on a bus to a school where they stayed for a couple of days. They got to know about PCV and came here. She wasn’t able to study at home so they left her here.

Her family stays in a house that they built when the government gave them money.
