Age:15 years old
His dad is doing a business and his 1 younger brother is staying with him. His mum had died in the Tsunami. Dad then got married again. He lost his right arm through a bomb explosion during the last attack. When I asked if it was easy for him to stay in the “home”, he said it is better here because then he will study if not he will be just playing around. Here, he is more disciplined and he prefers that he studies rather than loitering around.
He was captured by the government officials and put in camp with his dad. He had to live off a tent for 6 whole months of which it was a horrible experience. It was hot inside the tents as there were no ventilation. There was no water to drink or bathe in most of the time. They had to search long and hard to even drink. The food was bad. There were long queues for the food, and it was only small amounts provided. They were not allowed to leave the camp for the entire 6 months. If they were caught trying the escape, like others, they would have been stoned to death.
He was not worried that he had lost his arm because he was really grateful that he at least got to live. He thought he was not going to escape during the last attack but then he said God was there to save him. He has seen dying bodies right in front him, I guess that’s why he appreciates what he has got now.
He likes to learn everything, there is nothing he doesn’t like when it comes to studying perhaps that’s why he wants to become a teacher. A very successful teacher.
